Frequently asked questions

How much does a certified translation or apostille cost?

Prices depend on the type and length of the document, the languages, the destination country and how quickly you need it. Send us a scan or photo and we will reply with a tailored quote.

How long does it take?

Short personal documents are often translated within a few business days. Apostilles and embassy legalizations depend on the processing times of the authorities involved. We give you a realistic timeline with every quote and tell you when express handling is possible.

What is the difference between an apostille and legalization?

An apostille is a single certificate accepted by countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention. In Belize it is issued by the Registrar General. Countries outside the Convention require legalization instead: certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed by the destination country's embassy or consulate.

Will my translation be accepted?

Each receiving authority sets its own rules. We ask where your document is going and prepare it accordingly — certified, notarized, apostilled or legalized.

Do I need to visit your office?

No. Most requests are handled entirely by email, with originals sent by courier when needed. Interpreters travel to you anywhere in Belize or work by phone and video.

Can you obtain Belizean documents for me while I am abroad?

Yes. With your signed authorization we request certificates and records from Belizean registries, then apostille, translate and ship them to you.

Which languages do you work with?

English, Spanish, Belizean Kriol, Q'eqchi', Mopan, Yucatec Maya, Garifuna, Plautdietsch and more than fifteen international languages, including Chinese, German, French and Portuguese.

Certified translation

Will my certified translation be accepted abroad?

Acceptance is decided by the receiving authority. Before we start, we check what that authority requires — certification, notarization or an apostille — so the translation is prepared in the format it accepts.

Can you translate a document I only have as a photo?

Yes. A clear photo or scan is enough to quote and translate. If the authority needs a printed, stamped copy, we tell you how to receive it.

Apostille

Which countries accept an apostille?

Countries that have joined the Hague Apostille Convention, including the United States, Mexico, most of Europe and much of Latin America. For other countries, documents need embassy or consulate legalization instead.

Can foreign documents be apostilled in Belize?

No. An apostille can only be issued by the country that issued the document. We can coordinate apostilles abroad through our international network.

Embassy and consulate legalization

How do I know whether I need an apostille or legalization?

It depends only on the destination country. Send us the country and the document and we will confirm the correct route.

Do I have to go to the embassy myself?

Usually not. We handle submission and collection on your behalf whenever the embassy permits it.

Notary services

Do I need to be present for notarization?

For signatures, yes — the notary must verify your identity. For notarized translations and certified copies, we can usually handle it without you.

Can you notarize a document in Spanish?

We can translate it and have the translation notarized, which is what most Belizean and foreign authorities require.

Certified true copies

Can a certified copy be apostilled?

Often yes, once it has been certified by a notary. We confirm this for your specific document and destination.

Will I get my original back?

Yes. The original is only needed for the certifier to compare, and it is returned straight after.

Power of attorney

Can I sign a power of attorney in Belize for use in another country?

Yes. It is signed before a Belizean notary and then apostilled or legalized for the destination country, with a translation if required.

Is legal advice included?

We are not a law firm and do not give legal advice. We handle the language, notarization and legalization; for the legal content we work alongside your lawyer.

Document retrieval

What do you need from me to retrieve a document?

Usually a copy of your ID, the details of the record (names, dates, places) and a signed authorization. We send you the exact list for each document.

Can you send the documents abroad?

Yes. We ship originals by international courier and send scans by email in the meantime.

Interpreting

How far in advance should I book an interpreter?

As early as possible, especially for rare language pairs and simultaneous interpreting. Contact us even at short notice and we will check availability.

Do you provide interpreters outside Belize City?

Yes, in all six districts, and remotely by phone or video anywhere.
